San Miguel School is a coed, Catholic middle school in Tulsa, Oklahoma serving students in grades 6th, 7th, and 8th and welcomes any race and religion. Admission to the school is based on education and economic need.
Each grade consists of not more then twenty-four students, with two classes of students per grade. Students are tested upon arrival at San Miguel and again in the spring of each year. Many of the students entering San Miguel are several academic years behind in their subjects, especially reading, and are also lacking in enrichment experiences and self-esteem. With the one-on-one model of San Miguel Schools, students become excited about learning and set higher goals and dreams for their lives. Without such an educational model, these students most often fall through the cracks, drop out of school, become discouraged, and make poor choices with their lives that often lead to drugs, gangs, and worse.
Exposed to the positive force of a solid education and encouragement from San Miguel, and the commitment of their families, these same children become empowered to reach for the stars and to brighten their own lives as well as others within their community. They become the leaders and examples for others to succeed.
