By incorporating literacy into everything we do, San Miguel puts the English Language Learner (ELL) student on a trajectory for academic and personal success. San Miguel's student to teacher ratio of 12:1 helps students receive the support and structure they need to grow. With our individualized teaching model, students become excited about reading. Our goal at San Miguel is to take a 6th grade class and bring them up to grade level by the time they graduate. All classes are taught in English and we help struggling students overcome barriers to their success by:
• Limiting core class sizes to 12.
• Providing 120 minutes of Language Arts each day focusing on reading,
writing and vocabulary.
• Extending the school days and school year. San Miguel students spend an
estimated 300 more hours in school per year than their peers in public
